Showings to start next month
The Hollywood Reporter newspaper has revealed (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3if44ebfb31be090b578cf16fc7080704f) and Viz Media (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=4552) has confirmed (http://twitter.com/VIZ_Media/statuses/3897002024) that the Naruto Shippūden (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7293) anime series will run (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2009-09-10/viz-media-teams-with-disney-xd-to-present-naruto-shippuden-to-audiences-this-fall) on the Disney XD (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=7708) channel in the United States starting next month. The sequel series takes place two and a half years after the first Naruto (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1825) anime series as the older, somewhat more mature title character returns to his village of Konoha and faces the Akatsuki criminal ninja organization. The series has been streaming (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-11-17/viz-to-stream-naruto-within-1-week-of-japanese-airing) online on several websites, including ANN, since January.
The first Naruto anime series based on Masashi Kishimoto (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=8036)'s ninja manga ran on the Cartoon Network (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=704) until (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-11-17/viz-to-stream-naruto-within-1-week-of-japanese-airing) this year, shortly after the network had also ended (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-09-20/cartoon-network-to-reportedly-end-toonami-tonight) its Toonami (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=2777) programming block. Viz Media publishes the original manga and also releases the DVDs of the anime adaptations.
Disney XD is The Walt Disney Company (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=7919)'s television channel aimed primarily, but not exclusively, to boys. It has also run Digimon: Data Squad (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6230) and Oban Star-Racers (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=3633).
